Place Your Life Before God

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

When I read these translations of Romans 12:1-2 I was so amazed at how down to earth and practical these verses are.

TEKNON or HUIOS? Which one are you? Which one do you want to become?

What is teknon and what is huios? Are you a teknon or huios? And which one do you want to become?
Let’s find out the answer

First lets open our bible from Romans 8:15-16
It is stated that we are children of God. In greece language, the word used to descrribe this “children” is “teknon”. Teknon literally means adopted child. The word teknon is also used to describe the word children in John 1:11-12. We’ve been given power to be children of God. It happened when we received Christ as our Lord and Savior. So the word teknon also means a newborn baby. So it reveals the baby stage in our spiritual life. When we’re still baby, people find it difficult to differentiate one baby from others. Don’t you think so? They all cute, bald, small, and everything looks so similar. No wonder there’s so many dramas which telltale about the swapped baby. Because babies are similar to each other. At hospital, the newborn baby always given a brace to indicate who’s baby are them. That’s probably the only way to avoid bringing someone’s else baby home. Haha.. In our spiritual life, when we are teknon, one thing that differentiate us from each other is the “name tag” which Holy Spirit represent as one.

Now let’s get going to Romans 8:14, just before the previous verses. It is stated that those who are LED by the SPirit are the children of god. Although in English language, the word children is the same as the word children we see in the previous verses. In greece language, the word used to describe this kind of children is different, which is HUIOS. Huios means the child who’s been marked as someone’s son/daughter because the similarity between the parents and the child, it is the similarity of facial features, character, and attitude.
To be a huios, it’s not automatically happen, to become one we need what is called discipline and obedience.

Now we want to see what will happen if we are always be a teknon in our spiritual life?
The answer lies in Gal 4:1-2. A teknon child hasn’t reached puberty yet, so they are not mature. They still immature, and in those verses, it’s stated they are not any different from a servant. So they still not capable to receive, they are not yet ready to handle all the blessings, all the inheritance the Father wants to give to them, when we become child of God. Our Father in heaven, has promised to us in Gal 3:29 that when we become Christ’s we are
the heir of the promises God made with Abraham. And that’s an incredible inheritance by the way.
If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:29 NIV)

The thing is, the devil know those words, so when our Father wants to bless us, but then we still a teknon, he will claim those blessings not to be given to us. And when we are still teknon, after a long wait, we wait and wait wait, but it seems that God’s promises still far away from us, we become dissapointed, we become bitter, and finally we dont believe in God anymore. We say ” why should i follow God’s way if He’s not going to give me my prayer and petition? Why is those friends around me who search boy/girlfriend in their own way, get exactly what they want?” im tired, i dont want to believe in God anymore, now i’ going to search for them in my own way. At that point, we run away from God.
And so the cycle goes on. We’re still teknon, so we dont get the inheritance, the promise God wants to give us, then because we’re still teknon, we became bitter and eventually run away from God in waiting those promises to come true.

But why there’re so many Christians are still in the teknon phase of their spiritual life? Why can’t they become a huios?

1. We tend to entertain our heartbreaking moments and bitterness

We see this from the story of Cain and Abel. From genesis 4:6-8
Those who forgot the story, please take a time to read again the verses. Cain become bitter, jealous as his offering not being accepted before God. When we jealous and bitter actually we are blaming God. we said ” why You give him this or that, and not giving me the same?” And just like Cain’s story, actually in your deepest heart when you are angry, God already put an alarm, those telling you not to angry, stop the revenge and such. But its up to you to follow the small voice or just go on with your anger.

2. We dont want to accept God’s discipline

God knows our heart, He sees to the deepest desire of our hearts. So He truly understand which way our hearts are going. HE KNOWS THE TENDENCY OF YOUR HEART. Have u ever imagined a child who ask his parents for something that doesn’t give any benefit for him at that time? Eg. The boy who wants to eat an icecream, yet he still not feeling well, and having a sore throat. When he asks his mom for the first time, it’s really clear the mother says no to his request. But then he asks again, ” but mom, i’m starting to feel better than yesterday, besides yesterday my throat was as sore as ever. Pleeeeaseeeee??….” if ure his mom, after being fed up with those petition, what will you say? ” alright then, up to you, if your body’s getting worse, just take the consequence. Okay?”

Often we ask God for the question we already know the answer. When we ask Him about spouse who hasn’t accepted Christ as his/her own Lord and Savior? We often ask God thinking ” maybe the Lord will CHANGE HIS MIND” in the other hand we have known His word in 2 cor 6:14.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? (2 Corinthians 6:14, 15 NIV)

We also have been given example from Elia’s story (please read my note about unfinished work). Elia has a destiny to be a great prophet, but because he is afraid of one woman threat, he miss those great destiny and in the end God chose another human to be an succesor of him, which is Elisa, and we know that Elisa fulfill his destiny, doing what God wants him to do.

All of us, after we become children of God, we has our own destiny in Him, which is a plan of peace, and hope. (Jer 29:11). But then God will see through our hearts whether we are ready to be disciplined? Whether we are ready to become a huios? If not, then God’s plan will always be carried out, but those who don’t want to be disciplined wont be included in those great plans.

Sin in the mother language is called Harmatia, which also means MISS THE TARGET GOD HAS GIVEN TO US. When our work is UNFINISHED, then we’re counted as sinning. So we really must ask God to give us the mercy and grace we need to fulfill whatever destiny He wants us to be.

Another example about those who are not ready to be disciplined is Bileam. The story lies within the book Numbers 22, so please take time to read them, its very interesting. When people get to read theses verses they tend to ask, “it’s strange, why God seems so inconsistent here? The first time Bileam asked, He said no, but then He said yes?” as we have noted in the previous point, God know the TENDENCY of our hearts, so He know that Bileam heart tends to go with Balack army. Its like the mom who said, “alright then, its up to u, just bear those consequences by ur own.”

The Hebrew said that: Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. (Hebrews 12:7, 8 NIV)

God is educating us, so we MUST NEVER DROP OUT! The trouble we faced isnt a punishment, but TRAINING. However, we received training from the King of all kings, so don’t expect those training to be easy, but in the end, He will surely bring us from glory to glory. Amen

And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” (Hebrews 12:5, 6 NIV)

3. We have our own concept about God
we often say, for me God is loving, faithful, always forgive. They are all true, but we must never forget that God also has this kind of side within Him, that He is jealous, just, He is a burning fire.

In psalm 37:4-5.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this: (Psalm 37:4, 5 NIV)

Bible version of the Message point it like this: be flexible with God. So take delight in the Lord means be flexible with God. Dont make assumptions of God on basis of what we feel like knowing about Him, but we have to know all His sides.

There is another incredible promises in Gal 3:27, that : Your baptism in Christ was not just washing you up for a fresh start. It also involved dressing you in an adult faith wardrobe-Christ’s life, the fulfillment of God’s original promise. (Galatians 3:27 MSG)

The Lord isnt just giving us the fresh start when we become children of God but we’ve been dressed by an adult faith wardrobe. R,emember Joseph story, when he still seventeen, his father Jacob gave him a rainbow colour robe. At those time, the ranbow robe was only wore by the ruler. So jacob has given joseph his wardrobe of destiny, but did those great destiny fall right after he received the wardrobe? We know from the Bible that Joseph had to endure so many hardships 13 years after, until eventually He become a young ruler in Egypt.

If then, you do really want to know God completely, wholely, we must take our daily steps with Him. And if He needs to, we must pray and asks Him to force His destiny in us, so we dont miss the target He has given to us.

So is everybody ready to take and grab the destiny He always wants us to have? Which is a plan of peace and wondful future? If the answer is yes, then, do you choose to be a teknon, or do you want to be a huios? The choice is in your hand. But i truly pray so that, everybody will choose to be a huios, and be all the way He wants us to be!! In Jesus name, amen amen amen.

God’s Presence or God’s Present?

There are moments when we feel like something is missing even though we have our needs fulfilled. We witness how God has blessed our life, how our prayers granted, we still have family, friends, we took vacations, etc. yet, we feel we need something more, beyond those earthly things. And what is that? We can’t even figure out!!!

More overwhelming is the answer. It is not too far for us to reach, yet a deeper look at our soul is essential. We need God, whether we like that fact or not. We’re just human beings; we are creation, not the Creator. And our Creator created us so that we always have a need in our soul only He can fulfill. If we look for something other than God to fill that space, we’ll be disappointed.

Remember those times we spent with someone we love? We don’t need the person to do something for us, we don’t need their presents, we just need them to be PRESENT, we need their PRESENCE.

The same for God, He created us the need to enjoy Him thoroughly, overlooking His blessings, His gifts. Many people are only interested in what can God do for them, that’s why no matter what their accomplishment in life, something’s quite not right. Actually we long to know who He really is, not just what God can do for us. How do you approach God in your prayer life? “Lord please gives me this, Lord please blesses me on this subject, Lord I really need Your help, don’t You know that I really need this?”

Our Father in heaven knows what we need, even before we spoke it (Mat 6:8). Make a decision to seek His presence more than anything in our life and we’ll never feel incomplete anymore.
